The services that Akasu Palliative Care Society provides are very valuable to the communities of Vegreville, Two Hills and Mundare. There is no Hospice nearby so end-of -life care is done in St. Joseph’s General Hospital. These stories are from families who have experienced the Palliative care rooms and family room while caring for their loved ones. They best explain the value of these rooms when caring for an end-of-life patient.

Loss comes in many forms, whether it be a loved one, a job or loss of community. It can be particularly difficult to cope with these losses during times when others are celebrating. Many people who suffered a loss are dreading Christmas without their loves ones. Whether you identify as Christian or not, the decorations gift-giving, songs and the perceived and unspoken pressure to be “happy” and “in the Christmas spirit may leave us feeling sad and alone. This interdenominational service was established in 2000 to provide a safe space for those suffering loss to reflect on the past and celebrate the present with the support of community . The loss can be a long time ago or recent. Come celebrate the memory of a loved one. The service includes song, fellowship, candle lighting in remembrance, and a guest speaker. We invite all families, individuals to come on the first Sunday of December at the Vegreville Social Center for this FREE event.
